Hi guys 🤍

April is Autism Awareness Month, and this year it feels important to share a little more of my story. I have always wanted to do this but I have never been brave enough.

Autism is woven into every part of my life. Not just in one way, but every way.

As a mom. As a wife. As a daughter. As a business owner.

I was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (what is now considered Level 1 Autism) along with bipolar disorder at eleven years old.

At that age, I didn’t fully understand what that meant.

I just knew I experienced the world differently.

I processed things deeply and differently.

Things that felt simple to others didn’t feel simple to me.

For a long time, I never pictured myself getting this far. I definitely never imagined I would one day run my own business.

Running a business while being autistic is a very unique experience.

It’s passion and creativity alongside trying to juggle structure, boundaries, and self-awareness.

I love what I do. The storytelling, the connection, the way I get to preserve moments that matter.

But there’s also a side people don’t always see.

It’s answering messages while managing sensory overload.

It’s balancing communication, timelines, and expectations while staying regulated.

It’s giving everything I have during sessions and then intentionally taking time to recharge.

Adding bipolar disorder into that means I’ve had to learn myself on a deeper level.

There are seasons where creativity flows easily and I feel energized and inspired.

And there are quieter seasons where I move more intentionally and give myself more space.

Both are part of how I function.

Both are valid.

And then there’s motherhood.

Being an autistic mom to autistic children is something I hold so close to my heart.

There’s a level of understanding there that doesn’t always need words.

I notice the little things.

I understand their rhythms, their needs, the ways they experience the world.

It also means advocating, learning, and growing right alongside them every single day.

Autism Awareness Month, for me, is about sharing that autism doesn’t look just one way.

It can look like running a business.

It can look like raising a family.

It can look like creating, connecting, and building a life that works for you.

And it can also look like setting boundaries, honoring limits, and doing things differently.

If you’re on a similar path, whether as an autistic adult, a parent, or both.. I see you.

And if you’re here to learn and understand a little more… I’m really glad you’re here.

This month, I’m choosing to show up as I am.

Not perfectly, just honestly.

Because this is part of my story too.

With love,

Maddie.  🤍
